The Lewis County Lady Panthers and Panthers hosted tennis matches with the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers and Tigers on Monday, April 17th.
In girls’ singles play Ruth Jennings played as the number one seed for the Lady Panthers and controlled her matchup, taking an 8-1 win. Brooke Mason was Lewis County’s number two seed and took a win with an 8-1 score. In the matchup of number three seeds, it was Lewis County’s Trinly Greene that came up with an 8-3 win. In the lone doubles match on the girls’ side, Ruth Jennings and Brooke Mason paired up to take an 8-0 shutout win.
The Lady Panthers finished 3-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles.
In boys’ play, Lewis County had Bryson Clayburn playing as the number one seed against the Mt. Pleasant number one. In the battle of the top seeds, the match went into extra points where Clayburn fell in a 9-7 decision. Ethan Powers played as the number two seed for the Panthers and found himself on the losing side of an 8-2 score Julian Jones played a tight match as the number three for the Panthers, but the Tiger’s number three took the advantage late and held on for an 8-6 win. Jeremiah Sparks, Lewis County’s number four, took the Panther’s only singles win on the day with an 8-2 victory. Gavin Carroll kept his match close in the pairing of five seeds but fell by a score of 8-5. In doubles action, Julian Jones and Gavin Carroll teamed up to take the win in an 8-6 match. Ethan Powers partnered with Jeremiah Sparks and fell 8-0.
The Panthers finished the day 1-4 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles.
The teams hosted the Summertown Lady Eagles and Eagles on Wednesday, April 19th.
In girls’ singles play, Ruth Jennings was Lewis County’s number one seed and fell to her Summertown counterpart 8-0. Number two seed Brooke Mason dropped the two-seed match by an 8-0 score. Mary Halfacre played for the Lady Panthers in the three-seed pairing and fell to the Lady Eagle three-seed 8-0. Persia Snow took the court for Lewis County as the number four seed and fell in an 8-0 final. Ruth Jennings and Brooks Mason paired up for the first doubles match on the girls’ side and lost 8-0. Mary Halfacre and Persia Snow paired for the second doubles match and fell 8-0.
The Lady Panthers were 0-4 in singles play and 0-2 in doubles.
In boys’ action, Bryson Clayburn played as the number one seed for Lewis County and took control of his matchup early, and carried it to a win 8-3. Ethan Powers played as the Panther’s number two seed and dropped an 8-4 decision. Number three seed Julian Jones fell in his match 8-1. Jeremiah Sparks was the number four seed for Lewis County and lost his match 8-4. Gavin Carroll played as the number five seed for the Panthers and lost 8-0. Xavier Baggett took the loss as the number six seed for the Panthers by a score of 6-1. In doubles play, Julian Jones and Gavin Carroll paired up in the lone doubles match and dropped the 6-3 final.
The Panthers finished 1-5 in singles play and 0-1 in doubles.
The teams traveled to Collinwood on Thursday, April 20th for matches with the Lady Trojans and Trojans.
In girls’ singles action, Lewis County’s Ruth Jennings opened play in the one-seed match. Jennings broke serve early and went on to take the 7-3 win. Brooke Mason was the number two seed for the Lady Panthers and fell in an 8-2 final. Ruth Jennings paired with Brooke Mason for the only girls’ doubles match, The Lewis County duo took the loss 8-3.
The Lady Panthers finished 1-1 in singles play and 0-1 in doubles.
In boys’ singles, Lewis County’s Bryson Clayburn took control of the one-seed matchup early and cruised to an 8-2 win. Ethan Powers played as the number two seed for the Panthers and took an 8-0 shutout win. In the final singles match on the boys’ side Lewis County’s Gavin Carroll played as the number three seed and secured an 8-0 victory. In the lone doubles match Bryson Clayburn joined Ethan Powers and dominated the match as they took an 8-1 win.
The Panthers finished the day 3-0 in singles matches and 1-0 in doubles.
The LCHS tennis teams hosted the Fairview Lady Yellow Jackets and Yellow Jackets on Monday, April 24th.
In girls’ singles play Ruth Jennings took the court as Lewis County’s number one seed. Jennings played an even match before losing serve late and fell 8-2. Brooke Mason played as the number two seed for the Lady Panthers and broke service midway through the matchup and took an 8-6 win. In the three-seed match, Lewis County’s Trinly Green fell in an 8-4 decision. Mary Halfacre was the four seed for the Lady Panthers and dropped an 8-3 decision. In the five-seed matchup, Lewis County’s Persia Snow fell in an 8-2 final. Ruth Jennings and Brooke Mason partnered up for the first doubles match on the girls’ side and took a lead midway through the match and took the 8-3 win. Mary Halfacre and Persia Snow played together in the second doubles matchup and lost 8-5.
The Lady Panthers ended the day 1-4 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles.

Jeremiah Sparks played as number three for the match and took the loss 8-1. In the four-seed match, it was Gavin Carroll for Lewis County who dropped an 8-0 final. Xavier Baggett played as the five seed for the Panthers and took an 8-0 loss. Bryson Clayburn and Ethan Powers paired up for the first boys’ doubles match and never found their rhythm as they took the 8-1 loss. Jeremiah Sparks played with Gavin Carroll in the second doubles match and fell 8-0.
The Panthers finished 0-5 in singles and 0-2 in doubles.
The Lady Panthers and Panthers traveled to Lawrenceburg for matches against the Loretto Lady Mustangs and Mustangs on Tuesday, April 25th to close out their 2023 regular season.
In girls’ singles play Ruth Jennings started the action in the matchup of number one seeds. Jennings played a close match until the halfway point and dropped the 8-5 score. Brooke Mason was the number two seed for the Lady Panthers and fell in an 8-0 decision. Mary Halfacre played as the number three for Lewis County and lost 8-0. In the lone doubles match for the girls Ruth Jennings and Brooke Mason paired up and took the win 8-3.
The Lady Panthers finished the day 0-3 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.
In boys’ singles, Bryson Clayburn took the court as the number one seed for the Panthers. Clayburn. Clayburn cruised through his match and took an 8-0 win. Ethan Powers was the number two seed for the Panthers and fought hard in an 8-3 loss. Jeremiah Sparks was the number three seed in the final boys’ singles match of the day and took a 7-4 win. With only one doubles match on the boys’ side, Bryson Clayburn paired with Ethan Powers and took an 8-1 victory.
The Panthers finished the afternoon 2-1 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles.
The Lewis County Lady Panthers and Panthers tennis teams traveled to Lawrenceburg to participate in the District Tournament on Monday, May 1st and Tuesday, May 22nd.
Trinly Greene and Mary Halfacre paired up in the first round of girls’ doubles play in the district tournament facing a duo from Hickman County. The Lewis County pair was eliminated in the opening round as the Hickman County pair advanced to the second round.
Jeremiah Sparks and Gavin Carroll were the boys’ doubles pairing for Lewis County and they opened play in the first round against Summertown. Summertown took the win to move on to the second round, ending the season for Sparks and Carroll.
In girls singles’ play at the district tournament, Lewis County’s Ruth Jennings faced an opponent from Mt. Pleasant in the first round of action. Jennings won her first-round matchup against the Lady Tiger to advance to the quarterfinals. Jennings’ quarterfinal opponent was Anna Heineman of Loretto. Heineman defeated Jennings to advance to the semifinals and ended Jennings’ run in the tournament. Brooke Mason of Lewis County squared off with Hope Jones in the opening round and lost the match.
In boys’ singles play Lewis County’s Ethan Powers took on Loretto’s Jacob Bealer. Powers took down Bealer to move on to the quarterfinal round. Powers would meet Fairview’s Ian Lowry in the quartefinals, and Lowry would take the win to advance to the semifinals and end Powers’ season. then lost in the quarterfinals to Ian Lowry from Fairview. Bryson Clayburn of Lewis County faced Jordan Schlinsog from Fairview High School in the opening round of the tournament. Clayburn took the match in straight sets 6-2 and 6-1 to advance to the semifinals. Clayburn would defeat his semifinal opponent Ben Hirsch of Mt. Pleasant 3-6 (4-7 tiebreaker), 6-1, 6-2 to secure a spot in the District Championship match. Clayburn would take on Fairview’s Ian Lowery in the Quarters, Ben Hirsche from Mount Pleasant in the Semifinals, and Ian Lowry from Fairview in the Final. In a tight match Clayburn took the victory 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to win the Class A District 1 Singles Championship. Clayburn advances to the Regional Tournament in Tullahoma on Monday, May 15th.
Bryson Clayburn was also named to the 2023 All-District team.
