Come One, Come All to Library and Archives for Summer Reading Fun

It’s “all for one and one for all” when the Lewis County Public Library and Archives kicks off their 2023 Summer Reading Program, “All Together Now: Lewis County United.” Throughout June and July, the library and archives will host a number of family-friendly events including a storybook walk, an outdoor movie night, a magic show, a musical performance by World Turning: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac, and other in-person adventures. The annual reading program will run June 2 through July 15.

Designed to combat the “Summer Slide,” where children and teens experience a learning loss over the summer break from school, the library’s summer reading program keeps young minds active with reading and educational activities throughout the summer. A complete list of summer events can be picked up at the library.

Registration for the summer reading program begins May 30. Community members who would like to participate can sign up online at lewislibrary.readsquared.com. The summer reading program is free of charge and open to the public.

The official kickoff event for the summer reading program will be on June 2nd at Memorial Park. For the starting activity, young readers will be able to experience a familiar story in an immersive new way with a storybook walk through “The Three Little Pigs.” Summer Reading calendars and registration information will be available at the event.

Participants of all ages—from infant to adult—will earn virtual badges and real-world prizes by reading, attending programs, going on a scavenger hunt throughout town, and logging those activities through the READsquared app. There will even be opportunities to “give back” to local charities and non-profits by donating items most needed to help our community.

The 2023 Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the City of Hohenwald, with additional funding provided by local businesses. Support materials are provided by the Tennessee State Library and Archives. If you would like to help the youth of Lewis County prevent the summer slide, you are invited to unite with the library and archives as a summer reading sponsor. Contact the library and archives to learn how your sponsorship will be promoted throughout the summer reading program.
