Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative has selected Lewis County High School students Hadley Spitzer and Zoie Clark as this year’s Washington Youth Tour Short Story Contest winners.
Each junior will receive a $1,000 scholarship for their creative writing submissions. The theme this year was how “Electric Cooperatives Connect” Tennessee communities with energy, education, broadband, economic development and more. The short stories selected demonstrated MLEC’s core principles and described real examples of MLEC strengthening communities.
Additionally, the student at each high school receiving the highest score and residing with a MLEC member is offered a paid sponsorship on the Washington Youth Tour. This year’s trip is June 16-22, and MLEC will be represented by Hadley Spitzer of LCHS. Students from Hickman, Houston, Humphreys and Perry Counties will also be attending. The WYT provides students with the opportunity to tour the nation’s capital and meet elected officials from their districts.
A total of 14 students earned scholarships, and seven delegates within MLEC’s five-county service area will attend the trip. MLEC congratulates the Lewis County School System winners for their hard work during this competition.
MLEC is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility serving more than 35,000 meters in Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lewis and Perry counties. We connect our communities to a better quality of life through power, broadband and committed service. Learn more at mlec.com.
