Community Day at the Blueway a Big Success

Lewis County Government and the Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a “Community Day” event at the Buffalo River Public Access Point at Grinders Creek. Many people came out to enjoy the beautiful Buffalo River, and were treated to free hotdogs, chips and drinks, courtesy of a grant from the Hohenwald Walmart. Attendees also received free t-shirts, hats and giftbags, which were funded by a TDOT Litter Grant. There were also dozens of door prizes given away, thanks to donations from several local sponsors.

The event also coincided with “free fishing day” in Tennessee, and TWRA Officer Jonas Cothren and several of his colleagues came with fishing poles and worms they let children borrow to go fishing. Coach Lori Moseley also brought some members of her Lewis County High School BASS Nation fishing team to assist kids with fishing. Children who caught fish were awarded $10 Walmart gift cards.

“I appreciate all the county workers, volunteer groups and local sponsors who made this event possible,” stated Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner. “Because of its success, I’d like to make this an annual event so we can continue celebrating this wonderful asset we have in our community.”
