Mr. Paul J. Stutts, age 83, of Hohenwald, passed away on June 16, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia. He was born January 24, 1940, in Hohenwald, to the late James and Mary Ruth (Clayton) Stutts.
Paul enlisted in the Navy in 1957, less than a month after his 17th birthday. He was proud to be a veteran. He was an avid fisherman. He loved fish in general but catfish was his favorite. He was a pet lover, a hard worker, and a walking encyclopedia of baseball stats. He was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. He was a loyal employee at International Harvester for close to 40 years.
He spent much of his life living up north but he always considered Hohenwald his home. He was a simple man with a big heart. His wife, Betty, was the most important thing to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Lou Staggs Stutts, and his brothers and sisters Shelby Harris, Leamon Stutts, Charles Stutts, Shirley Rone, and Patsy Hunter.
He is survived by his daughters Mitzi (Dan) O’Connell and Sabrina (Glen) Dyer; his grandchildren Cherise Hurt (Adam), Elizabeth O’Connell, Sydney Drosen (Ethan), Olivia O’Connell, Brandon Dyer, Cody Dyer, and Kailey Dyer; great-grandchildren Elaina Hurt and Madelyn Hurt.
Visitation with the Stutts family was held Monday, June 19 at McDonald Funeral Home. Funeral services were held in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 20 with Todd Yates officiating. Burial services with military honors followed at Swiss Cemetery.
