Dr. Tracy McAbee

Director Of Schools

Series: Educator Of The Week | Story 1

Q.) How many years have you been in the education profession? What made you gravitate towards it?

A.) I started teaching in 1996. My first teaching position was as a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at Benton Elementary. I was drawn to teaching science because I enjoyed most of my science classes in school.

Q.) What is the most rewarding part of your job as an educator/administrator?

A.) One of my favorite poems begins "They ask me why I teach, and I reply, where could I find more splendid company?" This line sums up the most rewarding part of my job...the people with whom I am allowed to work. I am fortunate to get to work with all the wonderful employees of LCS, and the great students who come to our schools.

Q.) Can you tell me a little about how being an educator/administrator has influenced you or what it has taught you over the years?

A.) Being an administrator has taught me just how important good teachers are for our society. We can never underestimate the power and influence of good teachers!

Q.) Many people know the professional side of you, but can you tell me a little about yourself outside of school?

A.) I love National Parks. I love the idea that our Country preserved some of the most beautiful places on the planet so all people can visit and enjoy them.

Q.) What is your goal as director of schools this year?

A.) My goal is to support our school system and to make sure the good things that are happening continue to happen!

Q.) A huge part of making a school function well is team work. Can you tell me a little about the team of staff and teachers working at Lewis County Schools with you and how they make Lewis County a great place to learn?

A.) Our LCS team is magnificent. It takes people who care, work hard, are bright, commit to change when necessary to have a top tier school system. Fortunately, LCS has hundreds of these people!
