A Threat to Take a Life Saves Several

Drugs Found

On Monday, August 7, officers with the Hohenwald Police Department responded to a possible suicidal subject in the Ponderosa Drive area. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the mother of a female who advised she had to take a knife away from the subject, because she was stating she wanted to kill herself. Prior to law enforcement's arrival to that residence, the subject left to go with a "friend" who lives at Village Lane Apartments.

Upon arrival at the complex, Sgt. Alkire attempted to conduct a welfare check on the female, but she was no longer there. He was advised to contact her through another mutual friend. Sgt. Alkire made his way to Troy Lane where the other mutual friend was located and found him to be in the shed beside his home. Immediately upon approach of the door, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana, even stronger when the door was opened by the mutual friend, Scott Devore, whom Alkire advised immediately shut and locked it back. However, the possible suicidal subject needed her belongings from inside, so Mr. Devore opened the door to the shed and handed the subject her bag. She was talked to and cleared by EMS.

At that point, Sgt. Alkire knew something was off, so he contacted Investigator Pace, who advised him to go ahead and detain Mr. Devore and clear the residence to prevent the destruction of any evidence. Officer Halfacre advised that a short time later, Scott opened the door to the shed and came outside where he was then detained. Dawn Moore, Randall Moore, along with four minor children were escorted out of the residence.

Once inside, officers noticed burnt marijuana cigarettes. When asked if there was anything else illegal in the house, Mr. Devore advised there was not. A search warrant, signed by Judge Spitzer, was obtained, and Investigator Pace returned to the Troy Lane residence to execute the search.

Found was the following:

* A bag with 1,914 blue pills with imprint "M30", believed to be counterfeit Fentanyl pills.

* A loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol

* 466.7 grams of Methamphetamine

* Total of 142.9 grams of marijuana

* Multiple drug paraphernalia items, including: 10 different digital scales, multiple empty baggies, multiple glass pipes with residue, two hand-held scanners, and $3,427.85 in U.S. Currency.

Scott was transported to Lewis County Jail and charged with possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine) with intent, possession of Schedule II (Oxycodone) with intent, possession of Schedule II (Hydrocodone) with intent, possession of Schedule VI (Marijuana) with intent, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, simple possession Schedule IV, possession of legend drugs, and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

All narcotics seized in the case are being sent to the TBI lab for positive identification, weight, and quantity.

Chief of Police Kevin Carroll commended the seizure, "this was a great example of what can be done when a community works together and officers stay alert. This combined effort of the Hohenwald Police Department and the Lewis County Sheriff's Department is a direct result of working together to stop the drugs that are coming into our community. The M30 pills that were found are believed to have contributed to most of the overdose deaths in Lewis County, so this effort saved a lot of lives. Great job to both Departments for their awareness and diligence."
