The South Central Area Fair
The Fair is in town, and it has been for the last 100 Years! Join us this year as we celebrate 100 years of the South Central Area Fair!
Since 1923, a group of community-minded people have gotten together to bring Lewis and surrounding counties fun, unique entertainment. This year, we’ve stepped it up a notch or few! You’ll notice as soon as you enter the fairgrounds through the exhibit hall on Smith Avenue. We’ve added a true show room, complete with live quilters in action!
In honor of the centennial fair, the fair board has brought in double the amount of sponsors to help bring double the amount of fun! Smash-Car, anyone? Stilt-Walkers, Magicians, Face Painters, High-Flying Aerialists and free Axe Throwing are just SOME of the NIGHTLY entertainment! And, yes, we said FREE AXE THROWING!
We kicked off the Centennial Celebration with the Citizens Bank Ag Day over the weekend where 19 teams competed for cash, bragging rights and XL Big Green Eggs in the second annual Smokin’ Up the City BBQ Cookoff. Patrons enjoyed samplings handed out by not only competitors, but also H&R Hardware and Big Green Egg reps that were on-site for the event. After bellies were filled with pancakes at the Elks Lodge Pancake Breakfast, kids enjoyed an inflatable city of seven of the biggest, tallest, fastest waterslides around, while their parents shopped the nearly 20 vendors set up for the Farmer’s Market! Then, later in the evening, kids tried their hand at the first annual Mutton Bustin’ ride, while several teams competed in the Pineapple Barber Memorial Cornhole and Horseshoe Tournaments. A great time was had by all, and we look forward to next year’s event already.
