Lewis County

ranks 13th out of 95 counties in Child Well-Being

Lewis County is currently ranked in the top quarter of Tennessee counties in child well-being.

The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth (TCCY) recently released its 2023 County Profiles of Child Well-Being in the state of Tennessee, and out of 95 counties, Lewis County ranked 13th overall in child well-being.

According to the TCCY, each profile takes into account 52 indicators in that affect child development. This includes economic well-being, education, health, family and community.

Lewis County’s strongest indicator was the percent of students who scored “On Track” or “Mastered” in TCAP Math, in which the county ranks 10th in the state of Tennessee.

Overall, Lewis County ranked higher for child well-being than any of its surrounding counties, which include Hickman (ranked 52nd), Lawrence (ranked 25th), Maury (ranked 32nd), Perry (ranked 84th) and Wayne (ranked 64th).

“As County Mayor, and the father of three children, I’m glad to see Lewis County rank this high in child well-being,” stated Jonah Keltner. “Of course, there are still areas we must focus on improving, but overall, this is a good sign that our community is moving in the right direction.”
