Panthers bring home 34-6 win over Hickman County Bulldogs

The Lewis County High School Panthers traveled to Centerville to take on the Hickman County Bulldogs in the “Battle for the Brown Jug” on Friday night, September 8th.

Lewis County flexed its offensive muscle early in the opening quarter and finished off a scoring drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Brycen McDonald to Chaz Sparkman and the two hooked up again on the conversion to stake the Panthers to an early 8-0 lead.

McDonald would find Fletch Kelsey later in the period on a 38-yard touchdown and hit Sparkman again on the conversion to put Lewis County up 16-0 in the first quarter.

The teams would swap possession in the early minutes of the second quarter before Lewis County put together a drive deep into Bulldog territory and Drew Ray would score on a 2-yard run that gave the Panthers a 22-0 lead going into the halftime break.

The only points the Bulldogs would muster on the night would come on the defensive side as they recovered a third quarter fumble and ran in from the eight o make it a 22-6 game.

Lewis Cunty would score twice in the fourth quarter, both on runs from Reggie Wade. Wade sprinted to the endzone on a 15-yard run and later found paydirt on a 3-yard dive and the Panthers secured a 34-6 lead before time expired. The Panthers kept ownership of the Brown Jug in a 34-6 win over the rival Bulldogs.

The Panther defense was dominant in the game, holding the Bulldogs to only 115 yards of offense. Noah Alkire paced the Panther defense with 9 tackles with 1 for a loss, Dominic Seiber had 6 tackles, 3 for loss, with 3 sacks, Eli Carroll 6 tackles, 1 for loss, and a sack, Fletch Kelsey 6 tackles and an interception, Ethan Ray 6 tackles, Kobe Feichtinger and Drew Ray 5 tackles each, Chaz Sparkman, Tim Brown, and Nathanial Caamal 4 tackles each, Jaylen Murphy 3 tackles, 2 for loss, and a sack, Kade Carroll 2 tackles, Brennan Davis a tackle for loss and a sack, and Aiden Wise, Braylon Bean, and Logan Gallino 1 tackle each.

Quarterback Brycen McDonald was 12-25 passing for 203 yards with 2 touchdowns. Fletch Kelsey had 8 receptions for 122 yards a TD, and Chaz Sparkman 4 receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. Micah Godfrey had 65 yards on 15 carries, Drew ray 6 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown, Reggie Wade 6 carries for 39 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Brycen McDonald 3 carries for 17 yards.
