Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

Jo Ann Coble Lawson

July 6, 1945 - October 6, 2023

Jo Ann Coble Lawson passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born on July 6, 1945, in Hickman County, to the late Joe Coble & Mildred Marie Davidson Coble.

Jo Ann was a graduate of Lewis County High School, Class of 1963. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her and her husband, Butch, to own and operate Lawson's Junk Store for 24 years until her retirement. The two of them also owned Lawson's Fabric, which later became Main Street Fabric. These businesses not only served the community but also became a part of it, much like Jo Ann herself.

Beyond her professional life, Jo Ann had a deep passion for genealogy. She spent countless hours researching and documenting family history, a hobby that brought her immense joy and a sense of reward. Her love for history led to her work with the Beech Grove Cemetery books, a project she held close to her heart.

Jo Ann was known in her family for her cooking, particularly her chicken and dumplings. Her dishes were always a hit at family reunions and oftentimes, they needed a bigger pot of her famous chicken and dumplings. Her love for her family was apparent in all she did.

In her latter years, Jo Ann attended Flat Rock Church of Chirst, driving herself until she was no longer able to do so. She was a woman of strength and love, which was a testament to her unwavering faith.

In addition to her parents, Joe and Mildred Coble, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kerry Don Seiber and her siblings, Edward Coble and Barbara Coble Finerty.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Larry Drew "Butch" Lawson; her children, Darrin (Wilma) Lawson and Stacy Seiber Travis; four grandchildren, Aleia (Daniel) Scott, Andrew (Emily) Lawson, Alan Seiber, and Alex (Veronica) Lawson; and nine great-grandchildren, AJ Seiber, Macie Seiber, Easton Seiber, Dawson Seiber, Clayton Scott, Savannah Scott, Owen Lawson, Lilly Lawson, and Aria Lawson.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 9, 2023, in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald with Bill Webb officiating. Burial services followed in Downey Cemetery.

McDonald Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Lawson family.
