Panthers tackle Eagles

The Lewis County Panthers came off of their bye week on Friday night, October 20th as they traveled to Summertown for a matchup with the Summertown Eagles.

It would be late in the opening quarter before either team could manage to get on the scoreboard, and it was the host Eagles that took the first lead. With just over three minutes to play in the first quarter the Eagles converted a 30-yard field goal to stake a 3-0 lead.

The Panther offense would roll in the second quarter. Micah Godfrey found the end zone on a 4-yard run and the Panthers took a 6-3 lead two minutes into the second. Godfrey would add a second 4-yard run on the next Panther possession and Brycen McDonald would hook up with Fletch Kelsey for the two-point conversion and the Panthers took a 14-3 lead. Before the half, Godfrey would score once more on a 33-yard scamper and convert the point after kick to give Lewis County a 21-3 lead as the game reached halftime.

The Panthers would pick up where they left off early in the second half. Brycen McDonald connected with Chaz Sparkman on a 15-yard touchdown less than two minutes into the third to give Lewis County a 27-3 advantage and the two would hook up late in the period on an 8-yard touchdown and Dominic Seiber would tack on the two-point run to make it a 35-3 game.

Late in the fourth the Panther reserves capped off the scoring as Kolt Skelton hit Aiden Wise on a 7-yard touchdown pass and Braylon Bean scored the conversion run to pull the Panthers out to a 43-3 lead and the score would hold until the final horn and Lewis County secured the region win.

Micah Godfrey led the Panther ground game with 175 yards on 21 carries with 3 touchdowns, Braylon Bean had 5 carries for 33 yards, Brycen McDonald 3 carries for 10 yards, Dakota Hull 1 for 6 yards, Chaz Sparkman 1 for 5 yards, Drew Ray 1 for 4 yards, and Dominic Seiber 1 for 3 yards.

Brycen McDonald was 11-17 passing for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Kolt Skelton was 2-2 for 18 yards and a touchdown. Chaz Sparkman had 8 receptions for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns, Caiden Miller 1 for 11 yards, Fletch Kelsey 1 for 10 yards, Kobe Feichtinger 1 for 9 yards, Aiden Wise 1 for 7 yards and a touchdown, and Dakota Hull 1 for 7 yards.

Noah Alkire led the Panther defense with 10 tackles, 1 for loss, and a sack, Eli Carroll added 9 tackles, 2 for loss, and a sack, Nathanial Caamal had 8 tackles, Dominic Seiber 7 tackles, one for loss, and a sack, Drew Ray 5 tackles with one for loss, Fletch Kelsey 5 tackles and 2 interceptions, Tim Brown 4 tackles and an interception, Chaz Sparkman 4 tackles with one for loss, Brennan Davis 4 tackles, Kobe Feichtinger and Nate James 2 tackles each, Jaylen Murphy a tackle for loss and a sack, and Dakota Hull, Braylon Bean, and Corbyn Harris 1 tackle each.

The Panthers wrap up their regular season on the road at Waverly in a key region matchup on Friday, October 27th.
