Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

Lewis County School District News

The Hohenwald FFA officers had a FULL and eventful week at the 96th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis! There were around 70,000 FFA members from all over the country in attendance.

On Wednesday, they got to participate in a Career Success Tour at Strawtown Koteewi Park. This park is around 800 acres of protected land where the vision is to preserve some of the historical homes and huts. They learned a lot about the history of that area and how they are managing the land to regenerate the prairies. They also got to practice throwing an Atlatl wooden spear. They learned it would take a lot of practice to be able to take a kill with an Atlatl!

Thursday was National Day of Service, and the students travelled by bus to Crown Hill Cemetery where they were able to serve that community by helping mulch the old Beech trees that have been growing on the property for over 160 years and picked up trash in the cemetery. It was a beautiful cemetery with over 500 acres to maintain.

Friday they went to the Tennessee Breakfadt bright and early, followed by General Session, then went back to the Expo before heading home. The FFA Officers are Bentley Anthony, Cydney Couch, Peyton James, Carley Couch, Sydney Dixon, Andie Starcher, and Jaxon Howard
