Walter David Graves

March 18, 1935 - November 22, 2023

Walter David Graves, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Fairview, on November 22, 2023. Mr. Graves was born on March 8, 1935, to the late William and Nellie Graves.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Glenda, their son David Graves, and daughter Christi (Sean) Griffin. He was a proud grandfather to Alex, Anna Grace, and Andrew, and a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Virginia James. Walter was predeceased by his parents, William Graves and Nellie Shanes Graves; his brother, Jerry Paul Graves; and sister Jeweldean Wisdom.

Walter's work ethic was a character trait that made him stand apart. He had a 33-year-long career working as a draftsman for the State of Tennessee's Department of Transportation. He worked seven days a week, finding fulfillment in every task he took on. He had a particular love for the outdoors, spending countless hours tending to his farm and caring for his cattle herd. He was a perfectionist in all he did. Walter was a nurturer at heart, always ensuring that his family, his animals, and his land were well taken care of to the best of his ability.

Walter's reputation for honesty was well known. He was a man who believed in living within his means. His integrity shone through in every interaction, earning him the respect and admiration of those who knew him. Walter's selfless nature, spirited character, and wisdom made him a role model to many.

Walter was an all-around good man. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation and funeral services with the Graves family was held Monday, November 27th. will be held in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home. Burial followed in Swiss Cemetery.
