Members of the Fred E. Lomax Post 127 American Legion are currently seeking sponsors to help replace the rotten roof on their lodge here in Hohenwald.

The existing roof is nearly 50 years old and leaks during the rain. The damage has gotten so bad that it is threatening the ability of Veterans to meet safely at the lodge. A new roof will solve this problem; however, it is estimated to cost approximately $30,000. Therefore, a large fundraising effort has begun to help raise the money for this project.

Recognizing the importance of the American Legion and its lodge, Lewis County Government has stepped forward to become the first sponsor. And last week, the County made a very generous donation of $5,000 toward the new roof.

During a check presentation to members of the American Legion, Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner stated, "This contribution reflects the county's commitment to preserving the important role the Legion plays in our community. The Commission and I are proud to stand with our Veterans to help ensure this facility remains open."

Commissioner Timmie Hinson sponsored the Resolution approving the donation to the Legion, and he stated, "The American Legion is a pillar of our community, and they have provided services and support to Veterans for decades. I'm for doing all we can to help them out."

Michael Fullagar, Commander of Post 127, expressed his gratitude for the hefty donation from the County. "We are incredibly thankful for the support from Lewis County Government. This contribution will go a long way toward meeting our fundraising goal and getting our roof replaced so we can continue providing a safe space for Veterans to meet," Fullagar stated.
