Hohenwald TN.
The "sounds of shots fired" call came from dispatch Sunday evening, and ended with the subject deceased in the middle of the road on Summertown Highway.
The TBI is the investigating agency in the case and continues to release information as they find facts regarding the circumstances that led to an officer involved shooting Sunday night involving deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
Around 7 p.m. Sunday, a male subject, identified as Jeffery Shane Hunt, fired more than 17 shots at the equipment at the base of the cell phone tower in Hohenwald city limits on Elm at Mill Street (see bullet holes in picture above).
Deputies made contact with Hunt on Hwy 20 at Summertown Metals, leaving Hunt deceased. No officers were injured in the incident.
Several locals in the area reported witnessing the incident, including Simone Hodges and Tina Overby who "heard all the shots," and "saw a lot of it across the street."
Magda Guerrero said, "It was right across the street from my house! I was so scared, praying for him not to come into my yard or shoot at my house." Braden Pace, another resident on the street at the time, said, "a bullet went through the window on the other side of us where someone was sick in the bed asleep. We saw them fire about 25 shots into the equipment at the cell towers."
At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing as TBI, working solely as fact-finders, works to determine the series of events leading to the shooting.
The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to the respective department to answer as it sees fit.
