"One Day at a Time" Weekly Contribution

Well we have been having some beautiful and sunny, but cool mornings here in our little valley. We have also had just a few much needed rainy mornings.

This morning the sun is bright and the sky is blue, the wind is blowing and the trees are budding out.

The patch of buttercups out by the old tree stump are so pretty, but we are at that time of year where the weather can change quickly.

By the time you all are reading this the weather may have changed completely, it could be raining or even snowing.

Friday is the 1st of March and it is an unpredictable month, but you can count on one part of the month that we will have a lot of high wind.

The old saying is “if March comes in like a lamb then it will go out like a lion”. Most of you have probably heard that saying and if we tell it to a younger person then they just give us a strange look.

The cats do not like real high wind, they were here early to eat their breakfast, they are now out in the backyard watching the birds at the birdfeeders. The birds do not seem to be scared of the cats and the cats have not bothered the birds, so far that is.

Bob has finished washing the breakfast dishes and the kitchen is spotless. This morning for breakfast I made chocolate gray and homemade biscuit.

Last week, Pam and Rick came by and brought us some country eggs. Most people’s chickens have almost stopped laying because it is wintertime, we have been missing them good country eggs. Bob sure likes egg sandwiches, thank you Pam and Rick.

It will not be long until Spring. Lots of people have started thinking about getting their gardens planted. Seems like a few years ago most people had stopped even putting out a garden.

With the cost of groceries getting higher over the last two or three years, more people have been planting gardens. Home grown vegetables are really healthier for us and they taste a whole lot better than store bought ones, if you ever eat vegetables fresh out of a garden you will know the difference.

We were out getting our errands done and we saw several garden spots that were plowed and they looked like they were ready to plant.

Back when we were able to have a garden, we would always plant potatoes close to this time of year. We always had an early garden and then one later in the Summer.

If the cost of living and food keep getting higher, and with the cost and trouble of transporting things keep going up, we all will probably have to grow our food to be able to eat.

We have had another busy week, we got some more things done both inside and also outside. During Spring and right before it is a good time to get things done before the hot weather of summertime.

Bobby is trimming some trees and bushes, Bob is cleaning up in his shop, and I am finishing up some things inside that need to be done before Spring gets here.

I do not think we ever slow down unless we get snowed in and I do not think that is going to happen anymore this Winter.

Bobby says he can not even stop for the snow, he helps keep us firewood on the back porch and he shovels the snow out of the way so that we will have a path to walk if we had to get out.

I made us a big homemade chicken pot pie and it was really good. I have enjoyed the cold days of this winter, and when we had the old wood heating stove going and being able to keep things warm on top of it.

This Winter I got a lot of my sewing done but not all of it. I am now enjoying these warmer days that we have been having and I am looking forward to Spring.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless,

Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
