Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
Well it is a cool morning here in our little valley. We had some rain last night but today the sky is blue and the sun is shining. This weather sure is unpredictable, it can change quickly.
The cats were here early this morning and ready for their breakfast. The wind is blowing pretty hard and they do not like it, but they are more hungry than scared.
Bob is washing the breakfast dishes and he will soon have my kitchen spotless. It sure is nice to have a good dishwasher, I think I will keep him.
We have had another busy week. We did some more cleaning in my little quilt house, it has a screened-in front porch, and we like to sit out there when the weather gets warmer, Bob goes with me sometimes and we sit out on the porch.
Bobby has been doing a lot of work outside, cleaning up and washing off some things. He moved the last of the firewood off the back porch and washed the back porch off.
Bob picked up some sticks and cleaned up a little in the yard. Bob is doing better, his physical therapy has helped him, he really likes going and everyone out there spoils him.
Our fruit trees are blooming, I hope these cool nights and these light frosts have not hurt them. The weather gets warm and the fruit trees start coming out and then we have another cold spell and it kills all the new blooms.
The old apple tree here in the yard has just begun to bud out. We have gotten a lot of apples off that old apple tree over the years. This morning for breakfast we had some apple butter that I had made from some of the apples off that old apple tree and it sure was good.
Back one day last week when we had that cold spell, we built our last fire of Winter in the old wood heating stove, it sure felt good and warmed the house. Thank you Ms. Pattie for the fire starters.
Bobby is going to clean out the chimney and the inside of the stove and then we will let the old wood heating stove rest until next Winter. Before you know it wintertime will be here once again.
I am sure all of you are noticing how high things are getting, everyday needed things like gas and groceries. Every week things go up, and some things are really high. Sugar in one store that I was in had gone up almost a dollar in one weeks time.
We do not use as much sugar as we used to, but we still need it. We do not use any kind of artificial sweeteners. We put sugar in our coffee and our tea, but I have cut back a little and now I do not even notice it.
I hope all of you that are going to have a garden are getting it ready. I saw the long range weather forecast and it looked like we are going to have some really nice weather.
I hope all the gardeners are also planting extra, I think America is going to need all the gardeners help before it is all over.
I am looking forward to warmer weather and getting outside more and getting some things done. Our yard is really getting green and soon it will be mowing time.
I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.
God bless,
Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
