One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 136

Well it is a beautiful morning here in our little valley. It was cool here but we did not have any frost, there for a few mornings we did have a little frost on the roofs. We can still have some very cool mornings and a little frost, but after April 15th it should be warm until Fall.

The cats were up and waiting for their breakfast. When it is really cold or storming they do not want to get up early. But today the sun is shining and the birds are singing, so the cats were up and ready for their day.

When I went out to feed the cats, I heard some doves, and I saw two big morning doves out in the backyard. There were several different kinds of birds at the bird feeders, they sure have enjoyed the feeders. Bobby has been taking care of the feeders and maybe this Summer the birds will take care of the bugs.

The old apple tree out in the yard is full of blooms, so far it does not look like any of the frosts have hurt it. Maybe this Summer it will be loaded with apples and I will be able to make some good homemade apple butter.

Everything is really greening out. One of the first trees to come out are the Bradford pear trees, they have now lost their white blooms and their green leaves are coming out, their white blooms smell really bad but they were pretty.

I think those little cold weather spells have slowed down the gardeners just a little bit. I have talked to several people that are planning on having a garden this year. I am so glad to see more people putting out gardens, I think gardens means better health and more freedom for all Americans, have you ever heard of a Victory garden.

We are no longer able to plant and take care of a garden ourselves, but some of our friends and family bring us fresh vegetables out of their gardens, they are all so good to us, and they also bring us fresh country eggs. Bob loves having a egg sandwich with a thick slice of tomato on it.

Bob is doing better. He has finished his physical therapy for now. Bob and me are both having birthdays in May and we are in our 80’s and we have been blessed with good health and we try not to take much medicine.

Now that it is warming up we are looking forward to getting back to walking, and being able to sit out on the porch with a glass of my sweet tea. I think a lot of people are ready to get back outside and get back into the swing of things, it is not good to be stuck inside all the time.

Bob has finished the breakfast dishes and the kitchen is spotless. The sun is shining on the end of our porch and we are going to take a few minutes and sit and enjoy our coffee, later today I think Bob is going to get out and walk a little in the warm sunshine.

I have got a busy day planned ahead, for lunch we are going to have a pot of white beans, a pan of brown cornbread, a big skillet of fried potatoes, green onions and some good sweet iced tea.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless,

Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
