Well it is a cool morning here in our little valley, the sun is shining and the wind is getting up.
We recently had a little more frost, one time it was 31 degrees here on the porch.
On those cold mornings the cats stayed in their beds, all three of them were snuggled together, but when the sun began to shine on the porch, they got up and they were ready for their breakfast and for some warm milk.
Someone asked me the other day who spoiled the cats, was it me or Bob? Well it was Bob, he can go outside and if they hear his voice then they come running.
The temperatures are starting to warm back up now. Everything sure is getting greener, the leaves on the trees are coming out more.
Last week we had to have our yard mowed for the first time this year and it was needing it, it seems like the grass just grew over night.
A lot of things have been happening lately, the weather sure has been weird One day it is 80 degrees and the next it is 45 degrees. The sun will shine one minute and then out of nowhere comes a heavy rain downpour. Then there are tornado watches and warning. Now on the news they were talking about the recent earthquakes close to us in New Madrid.
The cost of everything is going up, eggs are going back up because a lot of big chicken farms and people are having to kill their chickens because the spread of the bird flu, they are now saying the bird flu is starting to transfer into cows.
Seems like more and more bad things are going on in this world, God lets us make our own choices and He said it would be like this. But God still has it all under control and knows what is going to happen.
We have had another busy week, I cleaned out some of my closets and cabinets. Bob has been busy keeping the porch swept off, there is so much coming off trees that it is an everyday job. Bobby has been going from one thing to the next and working inside and out, he says even if you worked at it 24/7 you will never get everything done.
We were out running errands and went to the grocery store and I was surprised how much the cost of food has gone up and how the items have gotten smaller, even when some of the boxes have not gotten smaller but the things inside the boxes have, it is shrinkflation.
There was a lady checking out at the grocery store and she had her grocery list with her and we started talking and she said that she can only buy what her husband and her eat one week at a time and she was paying with cash, she had only a small amount of fruits and vegetables with no junk food.
In the next checkout line over was a young lady with no vegetables but with lots of chips and dip and cookies and she put it on her credit card, I know that is none of my business but it is just an example of how different people are.
I was buying a bag of pinto beans, some potatoes, a bag of flour and a bag of corn meal, did you know that a five pound bag of corn meal has gone up to almost 5 dollars? But that one bag will last me a while if I am careful.
This week we got some good country eggs brought to us. Bob sure is enjoying his egg sandwiches and he loves having an egg and sausage between a homemade biscuit in the morning.
If the blooms on the old apple tree in the yard survives these little cold snaps, this year I will be able to make Bob some apple butter to go with his sausage and egg biscuits. We always try to eat a good breakfast.
We have another busy day planned. Yesterday I made a big pot of spaghetti, so for lunch will have some more of that along with some pinto beans, boiled potatoes and of course some sweet iced tea.
I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.
God bless,
Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
