Lewis County Achieves Historic, Record-Low Unemployment Rate of 2.7%

According to the latest data released by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Lewis County achieved a historic, record-low unemployment rate of just 2.7% in February of 2024.

Among the main sectors currently driving growth and providing employment opportunities in Lewis County are manufacturing, retail, healthcare, tourism, and agriculture. “I’m thrilled to see Lewis County reach this historic low unemployment rate,” stated Lewis County Mayor, Jonah Keltner. “This remarkable milestone showcases the strength and vibrance of our local economy, and reflects the hard work and dedication of our local leaders, businesses, organizations, and workforce.” The record low unemployment rate not only benefits job seekers, but also strengthens the overall economy in Lewis County. With more individuals gainfully employed, there is increased consumer spending, higher sales tax revenue, and a greater sense of community well-being.

According to Debbie Landers, Director of the Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, “This latest unemployment report from the state clearly indicates that our local businesses are expanding, investing in their workforce, and creating new job opportunities. The Chamber remains dedicated to supporting local businesses, attracting new investments, and fostering a favorable business environment to sustain this positive trend.”
