Bridge Dedication Held Honoring Wylie and Bettie Carroll
A sign unveiling ceremony was held last week on Arkansas Road at the Trace Creek bridge, which was dedicated and named in honor of Wylie and Bettie Carroll.
Mr. and Mrs. Carroll are life-long residents of Lewis County, and have been a couple for 70 years. During that time, they have lived next to this bridge and dedicated their lives to serving our community.
Mr. Carroll is a known as honorable and hard-working man whose career included working for both the Lewis County Highway Department and the Lewis County Transfer Station. He is well-respected as someone who is always willing to lend a hand to his co-workers, neighbors and friends anytime they need help with mechanic work, welding projects or other tasks.
Mrs. Carroll earned a reputation for her kindness and compassion during her career in health care, which spanned over three decades. Throughout her life she served our community as a Nurse at the Lewis County Hospital, as well as the Lewis County Nursing Home.
During the bridge dedication ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll stated they were humbled and honored to have this bridge named after them, and thanked their neighbor, Wendell Kelley, who came up with the idea and brought his request to Lewis County Mayor, Jonah Keltner.
The Carroll's also expressed appreciation to their 4th District County Commissioner, Kyle Bobo, for sponsoring the Resolution, as well as their friend, Commissioner Timmie Hinson, who co-sponsored the legislation.
Mr. and Mrs. Carroll concluded by thanking the entire Lewis County Board of Commissioners for unanimously voting to name the bridge after them, and thanked their family, friends and neighbors who came out to attend the event.
