County Solid Waste Passes State Inspection Noting ZERO Violations

After Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Officials visited the County Landfill and Transfer Station during a surprise inspection, Solid Waste Director Josh Stutts recently received the inspection reports, revealing Lewis County had NO VIOLATIONS during the state landfill inspection.

Since 1994, the State of Tennessee requires each of the 95 counties in Tennessee to operate and manage landfills. This state mandated task also is accompanied by annual reporting processes and annual inspections to ensure the pit area is properly covered and maintained, proper erosion control, maintenance of ground water monitoring systems, up to date permits, recycling efforts are ongoing, and adequate household waste handling is performed – a few items from dozens of subjects that are observed and inspected by State Officials.

Solid Waste Director Josh Stutts stated, "We have an outstanding group of employees that work very well together to maintain the highest standards possible. Our goal as the County Solid Waste Department is to provide great customer service and also provide a clean and safe environment for all our customers and residents of Lewis County."

The results of this inspection is evidence that Lewis County Solid Waste is working diligently to improve the overall efficiency and cleanliness of the Landfill and Transfer Station and provide a professional facility for Lewis County residents.
