Adventure Awaits at the Library and Archives for Summer Reading Fun

Lewis County invites individuals to explore the 2024 Summer Reading Program organized by the Lewis County Public Library and Archives. This year’s theme is “Adventure Begins at your Library: Exploring Lewis County.” The program will run from June 1st to July 13th and aims to engage families in various activities such as a story book walk, an outdoor movie night, a musical performance by The 77 Experience, and other interactive events.

The primary goal of this annual program is to prevent the “Summer Slide,” a phenomenon where children and teenagers experience a decline in learning over the summer break. By offering a range of reading and learning activities, the library strives to keep young minds active and engaged all summer long. Registration opens on May 28th and interested participants can sign up online at lewislibrary.readsquared.com. The summer reading program is FREE and community members of all ages are welcome to join. The official kickoff event will take place at 10:00 a.m. on June 1st at the Meriwether Lewis Monument, featuring a Hiker’s 101 session and a trail exploration led by the new Park Ranger, Tandi Stephens.

Participants earn rewards by reading, attending events, embarking on a town-wide scavenger hunt, and logging activities through the READsquared app. This year, the library will host reading clubs for all ages. Preschool Story Time is tailored for participants under the age of 5, while the Junior Reading Club is designed for emergent readers between the ages of 5-7. The Tween Reading Club is open to older readers of varying confidence levels, aged 8-12. Teen Movie Mates and Book Buds pairs books with their corresponding films for participants aged 13-18. We are especially excited to introduce the new Grown-Up Movie Mates and Book Buds program, which offers the book-to-film concept for folks aged 18 and above.
