FLAGS ARE FIRST FOR LEWIS COUNTY

After what seemed like torrential rains for five months of this year, the sun Gods smiled on this past weekends Lewis County annual Memorial Day Parade and service at the Court House. Hundreds turned out for the parade through town to the Court House where the flags were raised and onlookers, mainly family members, sons, daughters, grandparents sheltered under trees as Lewis County honored our fallen, some 43 veterans who never came home.

The American Legion, The VFW and all volunteers should be congratulated for the hard work that was put into making this Memorial Day 2024 such a success yet again. Well done folks.

One of the nicer parts of the Memorial Day Parade was a group of 43 American Flags and Crosses lined up in front of the Court House, these representing the 43 Combat Veterans of Lewis County who gave their lives during the First World War, The Second World War, The Korean War, The Vietnam War and other conflicts.

This was the first time this had been done and was put together by Judy Runions, the Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee and Crystal Nash Director of the Lewis County Library who serves as the secretary for the Lewis County Veterans Memorial Hall and Park Committee. Pictured (left to right) are Hohenwald Mayor Danny McKnight with First Lady Dolly together with member of the Armed Forces Andrew Rodgers with his wife Sarah and daughter Anna.
