FOCUS ON VIBRANT HEALTH

Have you missed getting your weekly health information? I’m traveling this summer, so it may be inconsistent. Have you made some healthier choices from the things you have learned? Here’s a mini review. Eat more meat, butter and eggs and produce from your garden, and less processed foods. Avoid plastics whenever possible, and use more natural cleaning products. Use a land line instead of a cell phone, and hard wire your devices (best) or turn off your WiFi at night.

Sleep is another aspect of your health that is critically important. It is essential for survival and for your brain and body to restore itself every day. There are two critical factors that affect sleep. First, you must get enough. Research shows that 7-9 hours of sleep are needed every night. Second, you must provide the right light signals for good quality sleep. Light was discussed previously. Getting natural sunlight is necessary, especially the sunrise sun, to set your circadian clock. And avoid bright artificial light after dark. If you are not getting enough sleep, have difficulty falling or staying asleep, and wake up not feeling rested these two factors can make all the difference. Poor sleep can affect all of your body functions, including your hormones, immune system, memory and performance, stress-related problems, and more.

There are several additional factors that can help. Be asleep by 10pm, or earlier if you must get up early. Sleep in darkness, without artificial lights. Turn off WiFi for the whole house, and all electronics in the bedroom. Use non-toxic bedding, such as cotton sheets and wool blankets. There are less toxic mattresses made out of natural rubber, cotton or wool. What did humans do for thousands of years before modern mattresses? Reserve your bed for sleeping and making love to your partner, not watching screens or eating. For 1-2 hours before bed, avoid work and screen time, and do things that are relaxing for you. Exercise outdoors during the day. Eat plenty of fat and protein at dinner, and do not eat anything for at least 2 hours before sleep.

You will be amazed at how much better you feel when you get enough sleep, and good quality sleep.
