The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee Leads Adventure at Library

Lewis County Public Library and Archives became a hub for young animal investigators on June 21st when the Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee lead an Elephant Adventure. Katie and Laura from the Elephant Discovery Center introduced an elephant’s impact on the environment with the story “Once Upon an Elephant” by Linda Stanek. Once everyone was familiar with signs of an elephant, the participants moved to the lawn to uncover the evidence left behind. They found attempts to dig for water, crushed fruit, an open cooler and devoured cereal, broken branches, footprints, and even elephant droppings! The young scientists marked the findings in their field guides and discussed that yes, an elephant must have visited the library.

Thank you to the Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee for providing this program, and thank you to Bank of Lewis County for helping to make programs like these possible!

The next family event will be the Rock The Lot concert featuring the 77 Experience on June 29th in The City Parking Lot at 5:30 PM. To find out more about Summer Reading events visit lewislibrary.readsquared.com, or contact the Lewis County Public Library and Archives at 931-796-5365.
