Darrell Hinson

James Darrell Hinson, a steadfast Christian, cherished son, devoted husband, loving father, and a man of kindness in his community, passed away on June 21, 2024, in Hohenwald, at age 66. Born on April 25, 1958, in Columbia, to his parents, James Guy Hinson and Willie Matt Floied Hinson, Darrell's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and service.

Darrell's hands were rarely still from his early years, as evidenced by his first job at Tharp Stables, where his passion for horses and barrel riding took root. This love for the equestrian world remained a constant throughout his life, even as he pursued other professional endeavors. As a skilled welder and an esteemed instructor at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), Darrell shared his knowledge and work ethic with countless students, shaping the futures of many aspiring tradesmen and women.

Darrell's commitment to his community was unwavering. He bravely served as a volunteer fireman for the Hohenwald Fire Department, a role that highlighted his courage and selflessness. His spirit of involvement extended to the local racetrack, where he worked and shared his passion for the sport. Further demonstrating his dedication to youth and sports, Darrell was an active member of the junior pro basketball and booster club, always eager to support and encourage the younger generation.

He balanced his work and community service with a deep devotion to his faith, first serving as a deacon and then being appointed an elder in 2003 at Hohenwald Church of Christ. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in every action and decision and inspiring those around him to live with purpose and grace.

Darrell's interests painted the picture of a man who loved the outdoors and adventure. He was an avid hunter, with turkey and deer hunts among his favorite pursuits. His love for the beach was a source of countless cherished memories with his family as they soaked in the sun and enjoyed the waves together. Westerns captivated his imagination, and his younger years spent barrel riding and tending to horses were fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Above all, Darrell's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his adoring wife, Jackie Westbrooks Hinson, and his beloved daughters, Stefanie Tinnell (Patrick) and Brooke Hughes (Josh); and his grandchildren Kimberly and Parker Hughes and granddogs Leonard, Krueger, and Clemmie. He also leaves behind to carry on his memory his brother Rickie Don Hinson (Fay), sister-in-laws Mary Jo Warren (Gene) and Sandra Warren Stanfield (Dicky), as well as his brother-in-law Billy Wayne Westbrooks (Beverly). Additionally, he is loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His infectious smile and the calmness he brought to any room will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all who knew him.

Those who knew Darrell will remember him as a man who was always there for anyone, no matter the time or circumstance. His loving nature, faith-filled life, and kind heart made him a pillar in the lives of many. Darrell's legacy is one of unwavering love, steadfast faith, and kindness that touched the hearts of everyone he met.

Visitation was held Monday June 24, at Hohenwald Church of Christ from 12:00 until time of service of 2:30.
