Sammie Taylor Moore

November 5, 1951 - June 26, 2024

On June 26, 2024, Sammie Taylor Moore of Waynesboro, passed away at the age of 72. Sammie was born in Hohenwald, the son of the late Harvel Leon and Nettie Ruth Burks Moore. He was united in marriage to Margaret Jewel Moore on June 25, 1985, as they embarked on a journey of love and companionship.

Sammie honorably served in the United States Navy, embodying dedication and service. Sammie's professional path led him to the Wayne County Bootcamp, where he served as a corrections officer until his well-deserved retirement. Beyond his career, Sammie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - hunting in the quiet woods, casting lines into serene waters, embracing the outdoor wonders, and honing his craft in gunsmithing.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jewel Moore of Waynesboro; sons, Michael Shane Moore (Sherry), Robert Shawn Moore (Karen) of Ohio, Joshua Taylor Moore of Camden, and Jacob Alan Moore (Renee) of Waynesboro; daughter, Mackenzie Leigh Dicus of Waynesboro; sister, Sheila Gallaher of Waynesboro, and Maria DeVogel (Peter) of Florida; and grandchildren, Haleigh, Lucas, Samantha, Shannon, and Jace.

In addition to his parents, Sammie is preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Shannon Moore Dicus.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, with Casey Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens of Wayne County in Waynesboro, with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.

Pallbearers will be Micahel Shane Moore, Lucas Moore, Jacob Moore, Chad VanFleet, Dustin VanFleet, and Mitchell VanFleet.
