One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 149

Well it is a nice morning here in our little valley. I am sitting on the front porch swing and there is a nice breeze blowing. It is not as hot as it has been.

The cats have really been enjoying this cooler weather, they are stretched out here on the porch taking their morning nap. Later when the day starts to warm up some more they will go and find a cool place to nap until supper time.

The birds are singing and I am watching the neighbor’s cows grazing out in their pasture, everyone seems to be enjoying the little cooler weather.

Last week we got a little rain with thunder and lightning, but we did not get much rain and we need a lot more. There is still no water in the creek, and I know all the animals are probably needing water.

I was sitting on the porch the other morning and I looked up to see a very small baby deer that still had it’s spots. It was walking alone and very slowly across the yard, I watched it go up across the road and into the woods. I hope it’s momma was close by and watching it, a little later I heard a sound like maybe she was calling it.

Later that same night I saw a deer in the yard under the old apple tree and when it left, it went across the road in the same direction that the baby deer had went. I hope it was the baby deer’s momma and they are now together.

We have been picking our blueberries and they are all most all gone now. That big hail storm earlier this year got the most of them this year. I did make some juice from them and I was able to freeze some berries. Bob likes the blueberries on his cereal.

There was a few apples left on the old tree in the yard but a lot of them were damaged and got buggy. We were not able to get any good ones but the animals sure enjoyed them. The other night I looked out the window and there was a momma skunk and one little baby with her under the tree.

We have had a few little gray squirrels and a couple of big red squirrels come up and pull apples off the tree, they have been carrying a few down toward the creek. If we have a bad long Winter there is not going to be enough apples to get them through the Winter.

I do not know about you all but to me this has been a very unusual year, maybe it is just me and my old age. There are a lot of things that just does not seem right.

When I was growing up we had more regular weather and we had 4 seasons, now you never know what the weather is going to do next and it is either hot or cold with really no in between.

The kids were all here for the 4th of July and we really had a good time,. We have 5 great grandkids and they had so much fun.

For the kids Linda and Mark brought them bubble water to blow bubbles and firework parachutes for them to catch, we sure enjoyed watching them play.

Pam and Rick brought barbeque, they barbequed a whole hog and that sure was some good food. I hope all of you had a good and safe fourth and I hope y’all had lots of fun and were able to stay cool and maybe even got a little shower of rain.

We still have some leftovers, and we have banana pudding and water melon leftover that we have been enjoying for our desserts.

We have all been staying busy and we have had another busy week, we got lots of things done on the inside and also outside. It sure feels good when you are able to get needed things done.

Bob has got the breakfast dishes done and the kitchen clean. It is going to be a good day.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless,

Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
