Historical Society Receives Grant for Repairs

The Lewis County Historical Society is very grateful to have recently received a Capital Maintenance and Improvement grant from the Tennessee State Museum for a much-needed new roof on the museum building.

The Tennessee General Assembly funded a direct appropriation grant in the 2023-2024 Appropriations Act in the amount of $5 million to the State Museum "for the sole purpose of providing grants to museums with a 501(c3) nonprofit organization or affiliated with a government entity for capital maintenance and improvements."

The Tennessee State Museum received 170 applications for this highly competitive grant. The Lewis County Historical Society was so pleased and so appreciative to learn that they had been selected to receive funding in the amount of $26,500 for the roofing replacement.

The mission of the Tennessee State Museum is to procure, preserve, exhibit and interpret objects which relate to the social, political, economic, and cultural history of Tennessee and Tennesseans, and to provide access to educational and cultural programs and exhibitions for the people of the State.
