June Elizabeth Hardin Tharp

June Elizabeth Hardin Tharp, a testament of love and faith, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at the age of 91, in Columbia. Born on May 8, 1933, in Waynesboro, to Ray and Goldie Hardin.

June's early years were spent in the warmth of her close-knit family and community. Her life was further enriched when she met the love of her life, Reverend Jack Tharp, in the Napier community. Their love blossomed around shared faith, and after Jack held his first revival there, they married and embarked on a remarkable journey together. June stood by Jack's side for 70 years, becoming the cherished first lady of the church in Napier, where they served for 22 years before his retirement.

Professionally, June dedicated 47 years to serving the State of Tennessee through her work in Agricultural Extension services. Her commitment to her community was evident in every interaction, and her work left a lasting impact on those she served. June also shared her love for literature and knowledge during her years working at the Lewis County Library, enriching the lives of countless individuals with her guidance and kindness.

In her personal life, June was the epitome of hospitality. She relished in hosting her entire family for holidays and Sunday gatherings after church service, creating a home filled with laughter, conversation, and the mouthwatering aromas of her cooking. A talented seamstress, she lovingly crafted clothes for her daughter, Donna Gayle Tharp Anderson, in her early years. Her interests also extended to the joys of gardening and canning vegetables, which were further expressions of her nurturing and providing nature.

June's family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind a legacy through her sister, Linda Thomason; her daughter, Donna Gayle Tharp Anderson; her grandchildren, Andrea Carroll, David Anderson, and Anna Middleton; and her great-grandchildren, Emma and Haylee Carroll, Haven, Brinley, Asher, Ella, Katie, and Rett Middleton. Preceding her in passing were her beloved parents, Ray and Goldie Hardin; her devoted husband, Reverend Jack Tharp; her cherished granddaughter, April Rhinehart; and her respected son-in-law, Terry Anderson.

Those who knew June best would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and generous. Her life was a living example of her deep faith, as she always put the Lord first in all she did and was ever willing to follow wherever He led her. Her giving nature and hospitable spirit touched the lives of many, making her a pillar in her community and an embodiment of Christian love.

June's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved her, yet her spirit continues to shine brightly through the memories she has left behind. Her life was a journey of love, service, and unwavering faith, inspiring all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation was held at The Sanctuary UPC on Sunday, July 21, 2024, until the time of service of 4:00 p.m. Burial followed at Napier Cemetery. Matt Carroll, Chad Middleton, David Anderson, Willie Higgason, Brandon Finerty, and Kenneth Salhany were Pallbearers. Services were officiated by Brother Pearcy, Brother Droke, Adam Barber, and Willie Higgason.
