Seven members of Alpha Rho Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG), joined women educators from around the globe in National Harbor, Maryland on Tuesday, July 9 through Saturday, July 13, 2024.
DKG is a professional honor society for women educators with more than 50,000 members. Established in 17 member countries around the world, the Society defines its mission as promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
The international convention included keynote speakers Margot Lee Shetterly and Andre Bradford. Shetterly is the author of the bestselling publication titled Hidden Figures which inspired a number one movie in America. Bradford is an award winning slam poet and author of the poetry collection Golden Brown Skin.
The conference offered more than 50 breakout sessions providing participants with cutting-edge knowledge on communications/technology, educational excellence, empowering women, legislative advocacy, leadership, and more.
Takeaway mini-sessions and stations for technical trainings using one's own device were also held through-out the event.
Alpha Rho Chapter was founded in 1959 and is comprised of educators from Hickman, Lewis, Perry, and Wayne County. Attending the conference were Peggy Monroe, Audra Flippo, Barbara Hinson, Dr. Beverly Hall-Maughan, Janice Stooksberry, Chasity Ragsdale, and Judy McDonald.
Hall-Maughan was installed as 2024-2026 international president and was presented with the DKG International Achievement Award in recognition of her distinguished service for the society.
Peggy Monroe was elected to serve as the 2024-2026 Southeast Representative of the U.S. Forum.
Chasity Ragsdale is the 2023-2025 Tennessee State Organization First Vice President. Serving as Alpha Rho chapter officers for the 2024-2026 term are President Janice Stooksberry, Vice President Judy McDonald, Secretary Scarlette Woodall, Treasurer Barbara Hinson,and Parliamentarian Peggy Monroe.
DKG provides a variety of professional development opportunities and programs for members and contributes to various projects such as Girls Initiative to Revitalize Learning and Success (GIRLS); World Fellowship; Educational Excellence, Early Career Education, Early Childhood Literacy, and more.
