Robert Morris Bowman

Robert Morris Bowman, a pillar of the Hohenwald community, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at the age of 78 surrounded by his loved ones. Born on January 31, 1946, in Waverly, Robert's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his love for the community, and his unwavering spirit of generosity.

Robert's journey began as the beloved son of the late Leonard and Dolly Fisher Bowman. He was the light in the lives of his children, Jakki Bowman (Kenneth Reynolds) and Shayna Whitehead (Kameron), and a proud stepfather to Christopher Shelton. He was a brother to Raymond, Rodney, Gary, Tommy, Linda, and Judy, and held close the memory of his late siblings Deborah, Terry, and Billy. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren Ashley Forrester and Hailey Parchment, and his three great-grandchildren, with another joyfully anticipated to arrive in January.

In 1978, Robert opened the doors to Hohenwald's Sonic Restaurant, which he operated with a blend of hard work and heart until 2011. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his commitment to his community. Robert was a familiar face at horse shows and local fairs, and he was always ready to sponsor classes at schools and support various local sports teams. His involvement was not just financial; he invested his time and energy because he truly cared about the well-being and success of his community members and children.

Robert's interests were a reflection of his love for life and people. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found joy in the simplicity of nature, whether he was waiting patiently in a deer stand or picking berries in the Tennessee sun. Yet, it was his love for games, particularly the board game Aggravation, that showed his playful spirit and love for gathering friends and family.

Known for always wearing an infectious smile and having coffee in hand, Robert made warmth and kindness his signature. His thoughtful gestures, like visiting the local nursing home to make milkshakes for the residents, brightened countless days and showcased his loving nature.

Those who knew Robert would describe him as a man of great heart. He was loving, always putting the needs and happiness of others before his own. He was generous, not just in material gifts, but generous with his time, and his attention. Thoughtful in every action, Robert lived a life that was a blueprint for the power of caring for one another. His presence was a comfort, his laughter a joy, and his advice a guiding force.

We celebrate the mark he has left on our hearts and our community. His spirit lives on in the laughter at family gatherings, the cheers at local games, and the quiet moments spent in nature. While he may have departed from this world, his legacy of love, generosity, and thoughtfulness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Visitation with family and friends will be held Friday, August 16, in the Chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, with burial to follow at Jack Lampley Cemetery. Brother Dale Floyd will be officiating the services.
