One day at a time

Well it is a quiet and peaceful morning here in our little valley, it is so comfortable sitting out here on the front porch.

We got a little rain last night and I heard some thunder. The rain on the roof sure sounded good and we are so thankful for any rain we get.

This morning the birds are singing again and the neighbor’s cows are grazing on the wet grass, I think everyone is thankful for the rain.

The cats have had their breakfast and are now out in the yard chasing butterflies’ and each other.

There is a couple of really young squirrels under the oak tree here in the yard, one is a gray squirrel and one is a red squirrel.

The oak trees only have a few acorns on them and they are very small. We have a couple of walnut trees and we have not seen any walnuts on them this year.

Normally all the nut trees are loaded with nuts and the apple trees always have lots of apples. We walked down to the creek and it is still very dry.

All the critters are looking for food and water. We are getting closer to Fall and Winter, but I know God will provide.

Our neighbor is still getting a few things out of their garden, they brought us some fresh bell peppers, they sure where good with the white beans and brown cornbread that I fixed for lunch.

We were out the other day running our errands and we saw a lot of fields of soybeans and they looked real green and they did not look like they were needing rain. The fields where people usually cut hay was still dry looking, there may not be as much hay this year for people with cows.

We have been seeing a lot of trees starting to change colors and leaves falling of the trees. It may be from all the dry weather but the colors sure are pretty, it made me think of Fall.

Soon it will be September and then Fall will soon be here. Some of the stores already have out on their shelves decorations for Fall and Halloween, and some even have Christmas decoration.

If it was a little cooler then even I might start thinking about decorating but it is still too hot and dry. Some of you know that I start early decorating for Christmas, most of the time on the first day of November so that I can have most of it done by Thanksgiving.

Bobby says I go a “little” overboard on decorating for Christmas, over the years we have been cutting back. It does takes a lot work, time, storage and planning, but it is my favorite time of year and I think all my kids and grandkids enjoy my decorations and everybody that visits during the holidays enjoy them.

Since it has been too hot to do much work outside, we have been getting a few extra things done inside. I have been sewing on a quilt and also crocheting a little in the evenings. When it does start to cool down outside we are going to have to work fast outside to get everything done before any real bad cold weather gets here.

Bob has been doing so much better since he went to see Dr. Kamal and so am I, they always take good care of us. We are just about over that old sinus drainage stuff that is going around. We are both in really good health for our age, we watch what we eat and take our supplements and try to get a little exercise.

Bob has got the breakfast dishes done and the kitchen spotless, now is he is going to sit on the porch and enjoy his coffee with me, before long we are going to have to get our day started because there is lots of things that need to be done.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless,

Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
