Commissioners Make Veterans Services Officer a Full-Time Position

The Lewis County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to make the Lewis County Veterans Services Officer a full-time position here in our community. Randy Duncan has served as the county's part-time VSO since January of 2022, and despite only working around 15 hours a week, has helped bring in nearly $25 Million worth of federal benefits to Lewis County Veterans and their families. According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, those benefits include categories like compensation and pension, education and vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, insurance and indemnities, as well as dental and medical care. As a result of the growing demand for Mr. Duncan's services from Veterans and their families, and based on his excellent track record of hard work and success the last two and a half years, Commissioners agreed to provide funding to make Mr. Duncan a full-time employee, and doubled his work schedule to 30 hours a week. "Randy has a natural passion for serving Veterans, and these additional fifteen hours of work each week will allow him to make an even larger impact on their lives," stated Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner. "I appreciate our Commissioners for supporting and investing in Randy so he can continue helping our local heroes and their families receive the benefits they deserve." Mr. Duncan's new office hours are from 8:00am until 5:00pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 8:00am until 2:00pm on Thursday. His office is located inside the War Memorial Building at 29 Smith Avenue in Hohenwald, and his email address is [email protected].
