The Lewis County Transfer Station recently received a perfect inspection for the second time this year from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).
TDEC officials made a surprise visit to the Transfer Station and its Class III Landfill on August 7, 2024, and found no major Violations, nor even any minor Areas of Concern.
Since 1994, the State of Tennessee has required each of the 95 counties in Tennessee to operate and manage Transfer Stations and Landfills. Those facilities are inspected randomly throughout the year by TDEC officials for compliance on a variety of Solid Waste issues.
Such inspections include observing the facility to make sure the landfill/pit area is properly covered; proper erosion controls are taking place; ground water monitoring systems are being maintained; all permits are up to date; recycling efforts are taking place; litter is under control; and household waste is being properly disposed, among dozens of other topics.

"This perfect inspection shows their commitment to providing excellent customer service while maintaining a professional facility for our residents to dispose of their Solid Waste."
