The Lewis County High School Football Panthers hosted Community in the season opener at Bobby W. Sharp Stadium Friday, August 23, and had a banner night with a 64-6 victory.
The visitors were first to get on the scoreboard when quarterback Charles Haskins tossed a pass to Niles Barnett for a 13 yard touchdown at the 8:35 mark. The extra point attempt failed.
The Panthers would strike five and a half minutes later as Braylon Bean crossed the goal line from 8 yards out at 3:02 to even the score. Henry Sharp added the point after attempt and the home team gained a one point lead at 7-6.
Community was unable to make progress on offense with negative 22 yards rushing for the night. They did have a significant pass attack with 111 receiving yards.
Lewis County got going in the second quarter with six offensive scores! Brycen McDonald made a two yard run for TD at 11:12 with Sharp adding the extra point kick.Braylon Bean added his second score of the night on a 9 yard carry at 9:44 in the period. The point after was not good.
Kobe Fiechtinger caught a 45 yard pass from Brycen McDonald at 7:27 and raced for pay dirt giving the Panthers a 26 -6 lead.
Bentley Kelsey was the receiver of a 2 yard McDonald pass at 5:27 which resulted in another Panther TD. Braylon Bean added two on a conversion run.
McDonald connected with Dakota Hull at 2:52 on a 6 yard pass for a score. Kade Carroll tossed the ball to McDonald for the two point conversion.
The final first half points came with just 44 seconds before half as Brodie Unger took a 21 yard McDonald pass and converted it into 6 points. Bean added two more on the conversion run. to put the home team up 50-6.
The third quarter saw Kade Carroll grab a 9 yard McDonald pass at 58 seconds left in the period. Sharp kicked the extra point through giving the Panthers a 57-6 advantage.
The final Panther score came at 6:10 in the forth when Gavin Coker raced 27 yards for the touchdown with Sharp adding the point after kick.
Lewis County totalled 178 rush yards on 19 carries. Braylon Bean had 11 attempts for 107 yards and two TDs, Gavin Coker and one TD, 4 for 44 yards, Nathanial Caamal 2 for 15, Reggie Wade 1 for 10, and Brycen McDonald 1 for 2 and a TD.
Pass receiver totals were 176 yards on 13 catches. Bentley Kelsey 6 passes for 50 yards, Kobe Feichtinger 1 for 45, Dakota Hull 3 for 36, Kade Carroll 2 for 24, and Brodie Unger i for 21.
Special team totals: Henry Sharp 9 kickoffs for 380 yards, Kevin Lopez 1 for 31.
Defensive totals: Kelsey, Nate James, Samuel Moore 4 tackles each, Bean and Colby Cates 3 tackles each, Kade Carroll, Phenix McDonald and Corbyn Harris 2 tackles, Drew Ray, Aiden Wise, Dakota Hull, Gavin Coker, Nathanial Caamal, Logan Gallino, Blake Welch and Tucker Jones one each. Ray pulled in an interception, Bean had a QB sack and Samuel grabbed a fumble.
Lewis County will travel to Creek Wood this Friday, August 30, for the 7 p.m. contest.
