School Threat Lands Teen In Jail, Juvenile Detention Center

Making school threats is no laughing matter. It is not a joke. It is not something that should be said, because you feel you’re not getting enough attention. It’s not something you simply get a slap on the wrist for and go back to school the next day. It’s a truly serious offense and one that a Perry County teen will now face the repurcussions of.

According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, on the evening of Thursday, September 5, Perry County High School Principal Blake Skelton notified Sheriff Nick Weems of a 16-year-old female student that sent ‘snap chats’ to several students involving threats with a handgun.

According to Weems, shortly after School Resource Officers were assigned to investigate the matter, the juvenile was taken into custody by deputies. She has been charged and is detained at the Perry County Jail while awaiting placement in a juvenile detention center.

Sheriff Weems thanks his team, Principal Skelton, and all involved for coming forward on the matter. It’s a courageous thing to do and could potentially have saved several lives. “The quick response by his officers,” said the Sheriff’s Office, “shows how serious we take threats on our children. WE AREN’T PLAYING.”
