One day at a time

Well it is a beautiful almost Fall morning here in our little valley. We had a few days of a little cooler temps and this morning there is a nice breeze blowing.

We got a good rain the other night and it sure helped everything, after a good rain everything always seems fresh and clean. We still need a lot more rain though, our grass is still really dry.

The cats are really enjoying this morning, they like the cooler weather better. They do not care for hot weather, when it gets really hot then they just want to sleep during the day.

The hummingbirds are busy at their feeders. I guess they are getting ready to leave, soon they will be heading South before cold weather gets here. We sure have hosted a lot of them here in our yard over the Summer, Bobby has kept feeders up for them.

The crows and the hawks have been busy too. We hear and see them everyday. This year the hawks have got so big, they are pretty to watch flying up in the sky, except for people with chickens or small animals.

The neighbor’s cows are grazing in their pasture. Now that we got some rain they have some green grass to enjoy. I guess this long drought has been harder on the animals more than anything.

Maybe if we get a little more rain the farmers will be able to cut some hay for the Winter. I am looking forward to hearing our neighbor’s old John Deere tractor and seeing them hauling those big round bales of hay and stacking them down near the creek.

We have had a busy week, around the front porch we got some bushes trimmed and got some raking and sweeping done. It sure looks better, but we have got a lot more that needs to be done.

I have been putting away a few Summer things and getting my Fall things ready to put out. Also I have even already been thinking about my wintertime decorations and I am getting ready to put them out as soon as I can.

I am still planning on having a yard sale, soon I will have to put an ad in the Lewis County Herald so you all will know when and where I will have it It is hard to believe that soon it will be Fall and it is only about 29 days until Oktober Heritage Festival.

We went the other day to get grocery and found a few things on sale, we do not find many true sales anymore. I know this year has been hard on the farmers, even the Amish have had a rough year.

I had some strawberries stored in the freezer and I got them out and made Bob some strawberry jam. He had that jam with his homemade biscuits this morning, do you think he may be a little spoiled? Oh well, it is okay as long as he keeps the kitchen clean and the dishes washed.

There is a lot of leaves falling off the trees, the wind is blowing and each day it is beginning to look more and more like Fall. I have got to get busy, we have put a lot of things off until it got cooler and now I am looking forward to getting them done.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless,

Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
