LCMS slips to 2-2 on the season

as they lose the Homecoming Game

Coach Damian Clayton

The first quarter was quiet as neither team scored. LCMS defense was adequate as they only gave up 15 total yards on 6 plays defensed. The second quarter had some fireworks as Knox Rainey raced down the home sideline on a 43-yard score, Remi Logue and Jaylon J. Hensley led the way as they pulled to block. The 2-point attempt was no good. LCMS 6 Riverside 0

Riverside put a couple of long plays together and put up 14 points on 98 total yards on 8 plays. In between their scoring drives, Rainey caught a pass and as he evaded one tackler another hit him helmet to helmet with the crown. The result was no flag by the officials and Rainey left the game and did not return. Halftime LCMS 6- Riverside 14

The third quarter saw much of the same as Riverside exploited the LCMS defense on with big plays scoring 16 points amassing a 24-point led entering the 4th quarter. LCMS had a patchwork offense as 7th grader Liam Caamal and 6th grader Hunter Carroll were forced into duty to fill in for injured players. With several other 7th graders seeing action on offense and defense the squad gained some experience during the contest.

During the fourth quarter Riverside scored once more running the total to Riverside 38 LCMS 6. The loss was disheartening for the squad and coaches as they had hoped to have a better showing.

Stat leaders for LCMS were: Rainey 5 rushes 51 yards TD, Dax James 8 for 18 yards. Brody Clayton was 6 for 13 of passing for 35 yards. Hunter Carroll 1 rec for 7 yards, Logue 2 for 24 yards and Rainey 3 for 4 yards.

Tackling Leaders: John Adams 6, B. Clayton 4, James, Carroll and Caamal 3 each, Logue and Rainey 2 each. Mathis, Ramos, Chapin, Hensley and Sharp 1 each.

LCMS travels to Fairview Middle School for their next game on September 11, 2024.
