Highway Sign Dedication Held Honoring Raymond & Rebecca Tanner

A sign dedication ceremony was held last week on Highway 20 in Lewis County, where a stretch of roadway was named in commemoration of Raymond and Rebecca Tanner.

Mr. Tanner was a self-employed businessman in the timber industry for decades, and was still running a chainsaw up until his passing at the age of 85 years old last November. He was known for his honesty and hard-work ethic, but most of all, for his love of his family. As you can see by the photo full of family, friends, and community members above, he leaves quite a legacy.

Mr. Tanner left behind a large family that includes his wife of 59 years, Ms. Rebecca, along with their five children and their spouses: Paul (Clasha) Tanner, Connie (Jerry) Churchwell, Bobby (Stacy) Tanner, Glen (Jenny) Tanner, and Julie (Alan) Taylor.

Mr. Tanner also had 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren at the time of his passing, and his family continues to grow, as more great-grandchildren are expected later this year.

During the sign dedication ceremony, Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner stated, "Mr. and Mrs. Tanner have given back tremendously to our community through the years. They also made a lasting impression on everyone they met through their kindness and love for others. I appreciate our Commissioners and State Legislature for honoring them with this sign."

State Senator Dr. Joey Hensley added, "Raymond and Rebecca Tanner have meant so much to Lewis County, and together they established a legacy that is being carried on through their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I was happy to sponsor the bill in the State Senate to name this section of highway after the Tanner's, so that everyone who drives by and sees these signs will remember their contributions to our community."
