Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

letter to the editor

Autumn is the best time of the year. (Sorry, Summer.) It’s the season of colorful leaves and football games and apple orchards and haunted houses and cool, crisp sweater weather. It can also be the season of kindness—if we stop buying wool.

Sheep are gentle individuals who, like all living beings, feel pain and fear. But in the wool industry, they’re treated like nothing more than textile-producing machines, genetically manipulated to grow an unnatural amount of wool. Since the shearing process is driven by profit rather than compassion, it’s hasty, careless, and violent, leading to frequent injuries and leaving sheep with large bloody wounds.

These days, cruelty-free sweaters can be found online and on store shelves. Vegan fabrics such as cotton and linen will keep you cozy, warm, and looking great—which makes for a Fall full of fun, fashion, and compassion.

Every animal is someone.
