Jo Knows

“Hey, Jo, I turned 18 this year and it will be my first time voting. How do I figure out if I am Republican, Democrat, or Independent?”

Well, let’s take at look at each party and their views.

You might be Republican if you believe in personal responsibility and want the government to have less control over your life.

If you think taxes should be lower, businesses should have more freedom, and the government should focus more on national defense and traditional values, then you might lean Republican.

You might be Democrat if you believe the government should help people more, especially with things like healthcare, education, and protecting the environment.

If you support equality, social programs, and think wealthier people should pay higher taxes to help fund public services, you might lean Democrat.

It’s also okay to have ideas that don’t fit perfectly into one group! Some people are Independents and they don’t fully agree with either party.

The best way to know is to think about what issues are important to you and see which group shares your views.

Until next time...Stay curious and keep smiling. -Jo
