Do you feel very uncoordinated? If you’re in fitness class and feel that you never seem to get the steps right, no matter what you do, just relax.
These steps don’t come naturally to most people. Many exercisers have difficulty following unfamilair moves at first. Don’t feel discouraged!
Remember that most everyone who begins a new program will feel clumsy and confused!
Stick with the foot movements first. Once you’ve mastered them, then add your arms. By focusing on one thing at at a time, you’ll feel more in control.
Go easy on yourself and don’t expect to be perfect after a couple of classes. Your body has to learn how to learn how to move the way your brain tells it to. Give yourself time for improvement, because the more you performth emoves, the more refined they’ll become.
Also, give yourself time to learn the exercise language. Even when your body is ready to do what your mind tells it to, you still have to understand what is being spoken.
As you get familar with the terminology, you’ll know what various cues mean and your body will be ready to perform them more quickly.
Listening to feedback from others, even though you may not feel you’ve improved. Seek encourgement rather than withdrawing from the class.
Be aware that many drugs interfere with reaction time and make it harder to get in sync with the moves. If you are on medication, check with your doctor to see if it may alter your reaction time.
Even if you feel discouraged about your own lack of grace or think you look klutzy, keep your chin up and stick with your fitness program.
It won’t take long before you’ll even look forward to more challenging movement patterns.
