Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

one day at a time

Well it is a cool and cloudy Fall morning here in our little valley, but it sure looks and feels like an early Winter’s morning.

Bob has finished washing the breakfast dishes and is now enjoying his cup of hot coffee. Coffee just seems to taste better on cool mornings like this.

This morning the cats were ready for their breakfast and a bowl of warm milk. They ate in a hurry and now they have snuggled back into their warm beds.

We have been real busy this week, we have been getting ready to put up Christmas trees. The first thing we always do is clean an area extra good where we are going to decorate.

Bobby has been bringing decorations out of storage. It will not be long before we have Christmas decorations up everywhere you look in our house.

Soon our Christmas trees will be up and the Christmas lights blinking. I am not sure how many trees I will have up this year, I will have to count them.

I have also been busy getting out our warm clothes and putting our blankets and warm quilts on our bed. A good warm blanket or a handmade quilt sure will feel good this Winter when it is snowing out.

We have already got some firewood stacked on the back porch and the old wood heating stove is ready to go and do it’s job of keeping the whole house warm all Winter long.

I love Christmas and wintertime, I know some people do not like the cold weather but if you are prepared for it, then it is not as bad and we all know it will be Spring again before you know it.

Thanksgiving is just a couple weeks away and I think everybody is looking forward to it. All of our kids and grandkids come over here and we sure do enjoy getting to see them.

We were in town this week and everything is starting to look like Christmas, I love to see our town all decorated up for the holidays. I think seeing all the decorations make most everybody feel warm inside.

It seems like everywhere that we went people were happy and enjoying their day. It was like everybody had a little extra pep in their step and I did not see a frown anywhere.

A good friend just brought us some fresh turnip greens, and today for lunch we are going to have fresh turnip greens and fried sweet potatoes with some good brown cornbread, thanks Chuck.

Today we are going to have to hurry and get busy. Bobby just brought in another tote of Christmas decorations. We need to find some Christmas music to play while we decorate, what is the name of that song “Christmas Time’s A Coming”.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless,

Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
