Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
I hope you enjoyed and were perhaps moved by the article I shared last
week, titled, "Town Barns." (yes, I know; calender was just a typo -should
have been calendar.) This week's offering is, in comparison, a bit wispy
and less consequential, but nevertheless one that I want to share before
this month gets away from us. I have always believed that sunshine and
blue skies are inordinately esteemed and celebrated by TV meteorologists
as well as the common populace. Because gray skies and cold temps
take me back to my childhood in Ohio, I have penned my thoughts and affections
for a certain time of year.
So, I give you "Gray November Skies."
I will never despise
Gray November skies
Or the trees that stand bare
Or the chill in the air
They take me back to a time
When life was so sublime
Friends and football in the yard
Visiting grandma on the farm
Raking leaves for a buck or two
Then off to the dime store for a snack or chew
On a cold day, but never gloom
Reading classics in my room
Ivanhoe that Saxon knight
I was with him in the fight
Robin Hood, you took me in
I was one of your Merry Men
You can have your Aprils, Mays and Junes
With pretty flowers all abloom
Keep your Julys, Augusts and Septembers
I've got something to remember
So thank you once again, November my friend
For the rare gift that you yearly send
Reflect, reminisce, enjoy . . .
