Billy Grover was named to the Nashville Tennessean’s All-Mid State football team.
The Lewis County Civic Club’s Home and Business House Decoration Committee announced that prizes of $15.00, $10.00, $5.00, and five prizes of $1.00 would each be awarded to the homes best decorated for Christmas. Only the outside of the houses would be judged.
The following births were announced: Norman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Durham; and Cheryl Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frankie Lawson.
Funeral services were held for Claude Boyd, J.T. Carter; 62; J. P. Flippo, 85; Joe Gladden, 63; and for Mary Grinder, 73.
Williams Laundry advertised a holiday special of a one-bushel basket of laundry being washed and dried for only $0.99.
“Rails into Laramie,” starring John Payne and Dan Duryea, and “Night Rider,” starring Victor Adamson, were the Friday and Saturday movies showing at the Strand Theatre.
December 03, 1964
The Herald gave notice to subscribers that beginning January 1, 1965 the cost of a subscription within the county would be $3.00. Subscribers who paid for one year in advance prior to January 1st would be charged the then-current rate. This was the first price increase in the paper since 1942 when the price was set at $2.00. The LCHS Panthers boys basketball team defeated Summertown with a score of 56 to 47. Lead scorer for the team was Ricky Estes with 17 points.
Bob Gresham caught a three-foot eel while fishing in the Little Buffalo near Napier.
Mrs. E. D. Peeler was honored on her birthday with a buffet luncheon at her home.
Funeral services were held for L. W. Aydelott, 84; and for Mary Barnes.
“G.I. Blues,” starring Elvis Presley and Juliet Prowse, and “The Big Land,” starring Alan Ladd and Virginia Mayo, were the Friday and Saturday night movies shown at the Highlands Drive-In Theater.

Mayor Dol Willis and Roy Stephens, Executive Vice-President of the Tennessee Jaycees, were chosen as the Grand Marshalls for the 1974 Christmas parade.
Landis Turner was elected worshipful master of the Hohenwald Masonic Lodge. Everette Hinson was electedpresident of the Lewis County Bridle and Saddle Club.
Kay Windsor announced it would hold an open house at their new facility on December 8
The following births were announced: Vickie Ranee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Carroll; and Phillip Bradley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Tatum.
Funeral services were held for James Adcox, 53; and for Otto Garrett, 68. Horner Furniture Company advertised a free Admiral radio with the purchase of any living room or bedroom suite during the month of December.
“Call of the Wild,” starring Charlton Heston, was the Friday and Saturday movie shown at the Highlands Drive-In Theater.

The Hohenwald City Council voted to amend the beer ordinance and disallow the sale of beer on Sunday. The action was taken after city residents expressed an opinion by a no vote in a referendum placed on the November 6 ballot.
Construction began on a new doctor’s wing at the Lewis County Hospital.
Bob Gafford was selected as the Grand Marshall of the 1984 Christmas Parade.
The second annual American Cancer Memorial Run was held on November 11 and was termed a success by Robin Toole, Director of Social Services at the Lewis County Hospital. First place winners were Randy Bates, 3.1-mile male category; Delores Rochelle, 3.1-mile female category; Diane Frogue, one-mile female event; Kevin Herrin, one-mile male event; and honorable mention for the oldest participant was awarded to Augusta Williams.
Leon Dickey exhibited a collection of paintings entitled “Neo-Symbolism” at the Eastman and Wahmendorf Gallery in New York City.
The Riverside Beagle Club held its first field trial on December 1. Winners of the trial were Billy McWhorter, first place; Donald Wright, second; and Vince Hill, third.
The LCHS Lady Panthers defeated Loretto with a score of 55 to 52. Kathy Dye led the team in scoring with 16 points.
The LCHS Panthers defeated Loretto with a score of 41 to 39. Tyler Bell was the top scorer for the team with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception held at the Lewis County Senior Citizens Center.
Funeral services were held for Carlos Wright, 91.
First Citizens Bank advertised a $5,000 reward to anyone that supplied a lead that resulted in a new industry locating in Lewis County.
“First Born,” starring Teri Garr and Peter Weller, was the weekend movie showing at the Highlands Drive-in Theatre.
December 01, 1994
Mayor Guy Nicholson signed a proclamation declaring November 27 through December 3 as Home Care Week in Hohenwald.
Lewis Countains saw 4.6 inches of rain during the weekend of November 26 and 27 which caused flooded bridges and roads in several areas of the county.
A hit and run was reported to the Hohenwald Police on November 22 when a local school bus was rear-ended by a car.
Larry Franks finished fourth in the final race of the 1994 Pro Bracket Series at Memphis Motor Sports Park. Over 600 racers from over ten states competed in the race.
A domestic dispute ended in a man being shot by a 16-guage Stevens double barrel shotgun. He was taken to Lewis Community Hospital and later transferred to Vanderbilt in Nashville.
The Lewis County Education Association sponsored a tea for teachers with 20 years or more experience.
Melvie Hargrave was presented a plaque for lifetime membership by Kenneth Whitehead, member of the Little Swan Hunting Club, for her work and participation in the club’s programs over the years.
A hunter was accidently shot while hunting with his brother on their father’s property in Napier.
Mrs. Hobart Carroll was presented a lifetime membership plaque by Ricky Spears, vice president of the Little Swan Hunting Club.
Marine Captain Robert Rawdon was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for superior performance of his duties.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation held a series of meetings across the state to gain input from citizens concerning long range plans for the department. At a meeting held in Columbia, local residents expressed concerns over the lack of progress with the Hwy 412 widening project.
The LCHS Drama Club would hold the first performance of their “Fun Acts” on December 02. The show would consist of various performance pieces and would last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Wendy Raney, Director of Field Operations for the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation in Great Falls, MT visited Hohenwald to speak to the local Meriwether Lewis Chapter.
Len Womack, Jr. was presented a plaque in appreciation for his three years of service as council president of the Buffalo/Duck Resource, Conservation, and Development Council.
Cingular Wireless was featured in the Chamber Spotlight column.
Alley Willis was the December Dancer of the Month at Just Dance Studio.
The newspaper ran an article about historical recollections of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Brewer written by Sammye Lawson.
Funeral services were held for Lenora Burnett, 88; Leslie Crowell, 94; Iva Odom, 80; and for Jayzen Sparkman, infant.
