Lexington P.D. Addresses Threats of Violence at High School

In the afternoon hours of Sunday, January 12, 2025, the Lexington Police Department and Henderson County Sheriff's Department began to receive reports from the community of an on-line threat of violence regarding Lexington High School. The individual responsible for this threat was quickly identified and Henderson County School officials were notified of this threat as the agencies continued the investigation.

The subsequent investigation has determined that this on-line threat was not viable, and a 17-year-old member of the student body was responsible for the social media post. The student was charged this morning with violating TCA 39-16-517 "Making Threats of Mass Violence On School Property." The student will appear in the juvenile court of Henderson County on January 22, 2025.

Both the Lexington Police Department and the Henderson County Sheriff's Department are committed to the safety and security of the schools in this community. Our agencies strongly encourage anyone with information concerning a threat to our school's safety to contact either agency with that information.

This matter remains an active investigation.

Jeffrey G. Middleton
